FC Barcelona were worried to learn of the injury to PSV Eindhoven striker Donyell Malen, who hurt his knee in the 3-1 loss to Feyenoord, a defeat which cost coach Mark van Bommel his job.

Speaking before he was sacked, Van Bommel told reporters: "You have seen the incident, it doesn't look very good. I am more than worried about it. I don't know how serious it is, there will be more tests on Monday."

Malen, 20, is one of the forwards Barça have been tracking this season as they look for a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez, who turns 33 next month.

The Dutch international was taken off in the second half after a clash with Leroy Fer left him clutching his left knee in pain.

Barça have been following him since last season, when they were also taking a look at Luka Jovic, who ended up joining Real Madrid. There are also several Premier League teams interested in Malen.

Represented by Mino Raiola, Malen has a contract with PSV until 2024. In 25 games this season he has scored 17 goals and set up nine more.
