Barcelona weighing up promoting Alex Collado to the first team

Valverde likes the attacker and feels he would get opportunities

Albert Masnou

Barcelona could promote Alex Collado to the first team this season thanks to his performances over the last year and his displays during preseason.

The attacking midfielder has impressed Ernesto Valverde and his staff, who are weighing up giving him an opportunity, although nothing has been decided yet.

Collado made his La Liga debut against Celta Vigo last season and, along with Riqui Puig, is one of a talented crop of youngsters at the club.

Barça are looking at their options depending on what happens in the transfer market and Collado could be promoted to the first team if certain movements happen. For now, he will alternate between the first team and the B team.

Collado's come through the academy and has won the UEFA Youth League with the club. He has scored goals at all levels and has a deal until 2021, with an option to extend it until 2023. His release clause is 100 million euros.
