Barcelona player ratings after their slim win on Sunday

After Barcelona scraped a 1-0 win over Villarreal at El Madrigal, thanks to youngster Sandro, we rate the Barca players out of 10.

----------------------------

Claudio Bravo 6

The goalkeeper made no mistakes but doesn't look extremely confident between the sticks. Couldn't get near the two efforts which hit his posts.

Dani Alves 7

He was decent at the back and provided an outlet on the right. Sent in several crosses and although Cules bemoan his wastefulness sometimes, he was still one of the best methods of attack.

Gerard Pique 7

A solid, impressive performance and he'll be back in the Spain squad before too long if he keeps it up.

Jeremy Mathieu 5

The Frenchman was the weakest part of the defence. Some of his clearances were terrible and he nearly scored an own goal with an attempt at cutting out a cross, but hit the post.

Jordi Alba 6

A quiet performance from the left-back, who attacked happily but not particularly incisively.

Sergio Busquets 7

Won many tackles, as is his wont. However, Barça weren't always on top in the midfield battle.

Ivan Rakitic 8

He was the key player for Barça in the middle and has fitted in well almost immediately after arriving from Sevilla this summer.

Rafinha 6

The youngster was given a position in midfield, instead of the attack like against Elche. He worked hard but was not particularly effective.

Pedro 5

Not much worked for the winger and was often caught in possession.

Lionel Messi 8

Helped create the goal for Sandro after a good jink away and cross-shot behind Sergio Asenjo.

Munir El-Haddadi 6

After making a brilliant start at home against Elche he found this much harder going. He was replaced by Neymar after 58 minutes.

Substitutes

Neymar 8

The Brazilian had an instant influence on the game, and even though he should have scored from close range, showed a lot of determination to help Barça break the deadlock.

Sandro 8

The forward came on as a sub and scored the winner, bundling home from on the goal-line after Messi teed him up.

Xavi 7

Barça scored shortly after his introduction and he helped keep the ship steady afterwards.
