Barcelona president Joan Laporta explained last week that the club and Gavi were close to agreeing on a new deal for the young midfielder, who currently has a year left on his contract.

Both sides have come closer together after starting off with very different ideas about his salary are expected to meet on Thursday to more or less seal the deal.

Mateu Alemany’s sports department think that it could be the final meeting needed to sign Gavi on again, to a five-year deal, although that is still to be confirmed. His release clause will leap from 50m euros to 1 billion. The player will join Ronald Araujo on a similar salary grade.

Signing Gavi on has been a priority for Barcelona in recent weeks and he’s become key for club and country. Liverpool and Man City had shown interest in signing the midfielder.
