Barcelona have completed the signing of Andreas Christensen from Chelsea on a free transfer, the Catalan club confirmed on Monday.

Christensen, 26, has agreed a contract at Camp Nou until 2026 after his Chelsea deal expired last week. His release clause has been fixed at €500 million.

The Danish centre-back becomes the club's second signing of the day following the morning announcement of the arrival of AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

Christensen has spent a decade at Chelsea, including two years away on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach, but will now start the next chapter of his career in Spain.

The defender will compete for a place with Gerard Pique, Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia, with Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti and Oscar Mingueza all set to leave.

There could yet be further signings in defence, too, with coach Xavi Hernandez keen on Sevilla's Jules Kounde.

Christensen will be presented on Thursday, the day after Kessie.
