Barcelona 8-2 Huesca: Messi and Co unlock goalscoring potential

Valverde's side thrashed the visiting minnows with a brutal landslide of goals

Javier Giraldo

Barcelona recovered from going a goal down against Huesca on Sunday to record a stunning 8-2 win at Camp Nou.

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez scored two goals each, with Ousmane Dembele, Ivan Rakitic, Jordi Alba and an own goal wrapping up the three points as Barca made it three wins from three this season.

Huesca, playing at Camp Nou for the first time in the top flight, took a surprise lead in the first half when Cucho turned home Longo’s knockdown.

However, Barca soon levelled through a brilliant individual effort from Messi, who fired home after leaving Lusinho grounded with a brilliant turn.

Jordi Alba’s cross was then deflected into his own net by Jorge Pulido to give the home side the advantage.

A first goal of the season for Luis Suarez made it three, but only after a lengthy VAR process deemed there was no offside in the build up.

Huesca didn’t lie down, though, and Gallar pulled a goal back before the break to set up an interesting second half.

Barça, though, weren’t as generous after the break, adding five more goals as they racked up their goal difference going into the international break.

Dembele scored their fourth goal, firing home after being played through by Suarez, and Messi then set up Rakitic, who scored with a sweet volley.

Coutinho sent Messi through to make it six before Messi set up Alba, who recorded two assists and one goal two days after being left out of the Spain squad by Luis Enrique.

Suarez completed the win in stoppage time from the penalty spot.
