Barcelona 5-1 Real Valladolid: Messi's magic sends Catalans top

Two goals and two assists from the amazing No 10 did the trick

Albert Rogé

Lionel Messi did it again. The Argentine star scored twice and set up two more goals as Barcelona romped to victory over Real Valladolid and went back top of the table.

Clement Lenglet smashed home with the help of a deflection after two minutes to set the tone.

Kiko Olivas equalised after a mistake from Marc-Andre ter Stegen before Messi set up Arturo Vidal with a fantastic pass and the ex Bayern man nudged the ball home.

Then Messi whipped in a free-kick - the 50th of his career - to give Barcelona a comfortable lead.

He scored his second with 15 minutes left to go, a great piece of control and turn in one then a hammered finish, before teeing up Luis Suarez for the fifth.

“Leo showed all the quality he has, when he’s like that the team really feels it,” said Chilean midfielder Vidal.

“We see him every day and he surprises us every day, with the quality he has he’s from another planet. I have no words to talk about Leo, he’s from another world, everything he does, he does well.”
