Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu spoke to TV3 before the Joan Gamper Trophy on Saturday about the motion of no confidence against him.

Over 20,000 club members signed the petition asking him to leave. If 16,500 of them are verified, a referendum will be held on Bartomeu's future.

It's led to calls for Bartomeu to resign before a referendum, but the president says he is not thinking about stepping down from his position.

"The amount of signatures even surprised those behind the campaign," he said. "We're in the process of validating them now. We will continue to do everything with complete transparency.

"Meanwhile, the board will keep working to build the most competitive team possible. We'll talk again after the validation period. At the moment, no one wants to resign.

"The club doesn't stop and we keep on working. The transfer market's open until Oct. 5. No one has thought about resigning, we're focused on the day to day."

Bartomeu's in the final year of his mandate regardless. As things stand, he will remain in charge for the current season, with elections planned in March.
