Barça preparing to pull second palanca in deal worth more than €300m

After the agreement with Sixth Street for 10 percent of their LaLiga television rights, FC Barcelona hope to pull another financial lever (palanca) at the start of July as president Joan Laporta and his board try to turn the club's financial situation around.

The second palanca corresponds to another 15 percent of the television rights and would complete the 25 percent the club have the authority to sell following a member vote.

Barça hope to sell the 15 percent for between €330m and €400m, which adds to the €207.5m they received from the Sixth Street deal.

If the first deal was to ensure the 2021-22 season closed with a positive financial balance on Thursday (June 30) and reduce the debt, the second deal is to help Xavi Hernandez strengthen the squad.

The board's intention is to be able to get busy in the transfer market, in terms of incoming and outgoings because Barça also need to reduce their wage bill and lighten the squad to register new signings.

More palancas

Laporta and his board also reserve the right to pull other financial levers, including the sale of 49.9 percent of Barça Licensing & Merchandising (BLM) and a minority stake in Barça Studios.

Barça don't plan to activate those options in the short-term, but could turn to them if they receive a deal they can't turn down and need another source of income.
