Lisbon will host the Champions League quarter-final match between FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich. It'll be the first one-off match of the competition for both sides after the coronavirus impacted the traditional two-legged format.

The first knockout round clash between Barça and Bayern came in the 2008/09 season. Pep Guardiola's side won 4-0 at the Camp Nou and drew 1-1 at the Allianz Arena to secure their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Pique, Busquets and Messi all played in that match too.

After a late show from Messi and Neymar gave Barça a crucial 3-0 win at the Camp Nou in 2015 it would take a perfect performance from Bayern to turn the tie around. Pep Guardiola was in the opposition's dugout this team, managing the German giants, but his side were unable to turn the first-leg deficit around. They won 3-2 on the night but Barça advanced 5-3 on aggregate.

BAYERN RESPOND

The second meeting between the two sides was a nightmare for Barça. Under Tito Vilanova, the team looked tired after a tough season and were crushed 4-0 in Germany. They were also comprehensively beaten 3-0 at the Camp Nou as well. "We couldn't do it," admitted Vilanova. It was the biggest aggregate defeat in a semi-final (7-0) since 1964.

Without Messi, there would be no miracle

1st Leg: 6th May 2015 · Barça-Bayern, 3-0

Unstoppable Messi...

It was a night to remember at the Camp Nou as Messi made the difference in three crucial second-half minutes. He scored a brace - 77 and 80 - which included Boateng being turned inside out. Neymar scored in the 94th to end Guardiola's hopes of glory at his former home.

Luis Enrique finds a way

Guardiola's team got off to the perfect start when Benatia scored after just seven minutes. But a Neymar double (15 and 29) turned the scoreboard firmly in Barça's favour. The German's gave it all they could, winning on the night, but they simply couldn't overturn the first leg defeat. Barça would go on to win the competition.
