“I want to be the best in the world,” said Neymar when he left Barcelona. Since then, four editions of the Ballon d’Or have passed and in each of them his placement has been worse and worse. This year’s is his lowest since leaving Barcelona.

France Football put him 16th in the list, being players like Haaland, Chiellini, Lukaku and Sterling.

The Brazilian came third in 2017, the year he left for PSG. In 2018 he was 12th. IN a year marked by the Russia World Cup, he was criticised for his poor Brazil performances and quiet Ligue 1 display.

In 2019 he did not enter the rankings and suffered three injuries. In 2020 there was no Ballon d’or.
