Despite a lot of talk being about the €70m Manchester City paid Atletico Madrid for Rodri, another club has also struck rich thanks to the deal. The midfielder's former side, Villarreal, will rake in a €7m windfall.
That €7m is added to the €25m they received last summer when Atletico bought the player. This is because 10% of his future sale was promised to Villarreal when the two sides negotiated 12 months ago.
Because of that, it takes Rodri's total cost to €32m making him a more lucrative sale than Pablo Fornals, who recently joined West Ham United for €27m, and the €20m they received for Santi Cazorla when he moved to Malaga.
