The war between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is living its last battles. Away from the spotlights of elite football, the Portuguese and Argentine forwards are living a golden retirement in Saudi Arabia and the United States, two leagues where the competitiveness is years beind the European leagues.

In recent years, the fight between the two stars has been massive, both at club level and with their national teams. It is a fight that Messi seems to have won definitively with the conquest of the World Cup last year in Qatar.

Cristiano Ronaldo, however, does not give up and hopes that his presence with Portugal national teamwill allow them to be one of the contenders for the European Championships next year.

With Roberto Martínez in charge of the Portuguese side, they are one of the contenders for the continental competition, which they already won in 2016.

The No.7 of the Saudi Al Hilal appeared before the media in his homeland on Wednesday and wanted to settle once and for all any controversy with Messi.

"If you love Cristiano Ronaldo, you don't have to hate Messi," he said, adding "we have both changed the history of world football."
